Easy Finger Crochet Friendship Bracelets

2/18/14 - By Amelia Eigerman

Friendship bracelets are, along with being a kid’s method of choice for showing your love to friends, incredibly diverse. There are macramé bracelets that are more complicated than ordering at Starbucks. Lanyards bracelets that take hours upon hours to finish.

Don’t get me wrong, every type of bracelet has a time and a place; sometimes you just need to chill on the couch and knot some string into a super cool bracelet...for hours. But, little kids who don't have the patience or finger dexterity for more complicated bracelets have friends too; and these beaded yarn bracelets are the perfect way for them to get in on the friendship bracelet action.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

To make these super easy friendship bracelets you’ll need about a foot and a half of yarn or string and five beads with holes big enough to fit on your string.

1. Wrap the end of the yarn around your finger, leaving a tail of an inch or so and push it through the loop to make a slip knot. Then take the long strand of yarn and pull it through the loop of the slip knot while also pulling on the short tail to create a loop. Continue to do this until you have an inch or two of this chain stitch.

2. Thread a few beads in your choice of colors onto the long end of the yarn. On your next stitch, make sure the length of yarn you pull through the loop has a bead on it so your next loop will have a bead in it. Now, pull another loop (without a bead) through the beaded loop, keeping the bead close to the chain. You should end up with a bead as part of your chain. Keep doing this until you’ve included all of your beads.

3. Finish off the bracelet by repeating the chain stitch you used in the first step for an inch or two. Tie off by bringing the whole remainder of the yarn through the loop and pulling it tight.

There are a ton of ways to customize this simple project: you can change the length and make a necklace or a wrap bracelet, you can use charms instead of beads, or use alphabet beads to make a name bracelet for your friend. Let us know what you come up with!
