Save Big on Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular at Barclays Center with Our Exclusive Discount

6/9/14 - By Stephanie Ogozalek

Here they come again! The amazing, life-size dinosaurs that took Manhattan by storm in 2009 and 2010 return for a limited engagement at Brooklyn's Barclays Center this July. Inspired by the BBC's super-popular television series of the same name, Walking with Dinosaurs is the closest you can get to traveling back in time as you meet 20 prehistoric creatures in a thrilling spectacle that's entertaining and educational.

I always regretted that my son and I missed the previous tours of Walking with Dinosaurs but we won't be making that mistake this time around. I've already scored tickets to opening night and we expect to be blown away by the enormous, realistic-looking dinos. Since there are only nine performances, tickets are going fast. So get yours today and save some money with our exclusive discount for Mommy Poppins readers.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Step into Brooklyn's state-of-the-art Barclays Center and you'll soon be transported back 65 million years when Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular roars onto the stage. While the 90-minute show has a loose story and a narrator who shares lots of cool facts, the 20 lifelike dinosaurs are the main attraction. Cutting-edge technology and animatronics bring the Tyrannosaurus rex, the stegosaurus, the allosaurus and other species to life as they care for their young, hunt for food and, of course, fight, just as they did before they became extinct. As you can see from the photos, the dinosaurs look incredibly realistic, but the scale of the creatures is what will take your breath away. My son and I are particularly excited to watch an enormous, 18-foot-long T.rex defends her baby from carnivorous Raptors, one of the most gripping sequences in the show. And with stars the size of a brownstone, every seat in the stadium should be a good one.

In addition to being a jaw-dropping experience, Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular is also educational. A human narrator shares the latest scientific information about dinos and the era in which they lived. You may notice that some of the species have feathers, a fairly recent discovery. (No wonder they eventually evolved into birds.) You also learn some interesting facts, like why the carnivorous T.rex stood on two legs and how gentle herbivores fended off predators.

Although the show doesn't feature graphic violence, there are fight scenes, lots of load roaring, erupting volcanoes and very lifelike dinosaurs. It's billed as appropriate for ages 3 and up but sensitive kids might be frightened so use your best judgment as you know your child best.

Mommy Poppins readers can save $10 per ticket on select performances using the discount code MPOPPINS at checkout. We'll also be giving away multiple family four-packs in our NYC newsletter later this month, so keep an eye out.

Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular is playing at Brooklyn's Barclays Center from Wednesday, July 16 to Sunday, July 20. See the complete schedule online.
