Jaime Sumersille's picture Submitted by Jaime Sumersille on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 10:00am

With its rich farming history, Long Island is home to various animals that help tend to the land and produce food., while others animals are here seeking refuge, being rehabilitated from an injury. And we're lucky enough to view and encounter marine life at a local aquarium.

We've compiled a list of places on the East End of Long Island where you can learn about animals, experience hands-on encounters and even kiss a sea lion! In addition, visit some of these Family Friends Farms on Long Island, and for more ideas on how to spend your time in the area, check out our North Fork and Hamptons Guide as well.

Jaime Sumersille's picture Submitted by Jaime Sumersille on Mon, 07/21/2014 - 10:23am

With modern-day conveniences, we often forget about how we obtain the things in our everyday routine. You open the fridge and pull out a carton of milk--but who produced, collected it and bottled it? You tear open a bag of pre-cut lettuce for a salad, not really thinking about where it was harvested, cleaned and bagged.

Well, families can learn about the source of their food and get their hands dirty at one of these family-friendly farms located on the East End of Long Island. And for more fun ideas of what to do in the area, check out our Hamptons and North Fork Summer Family Guide.

Free Summer Children's Entertainment in Suffolk County

Jaime Sumersille's picture Submitted by Jaime Sumersille on Wed, 07/09/2014 - 8:25am

Not all summer entertainment for children has to come with a hefty price tag. In fact, several shows across Suffolk County on Long Island are being offered for free. We've rounded up those local concerts--now all parents need to do is grab a lawn chair or picnic blanket and get ready to shimmy, shake and smile with the little ones!

If you can get enough free entertainment for your kiddies, cross the border and view our Nassau County version. Looking for more cool things to do together? Check out our Summer Fun Guide of the Best Things to Do With Long Island Kids.
