The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Long Island State Parks throughout the month of January.

Dr. King’s notable accomplishments and impactful contributions to society are highlighted through informational displays and a day of volunteer service. 

Displays during the month of January 2026 are available at:

  • January 1-30: Hempstead Lake State Park, 9am-3:30pm (Tiny Tots on January 14 10-11am; $4 per person) MLK Jr. Day of Serive on January 19 10am-12pm. ages 12+
  • January 12 – January 23 (Monday – Friday) 10am – 3:30pm, for information call 631-321-3510. LI State Parks Regional Headquarters Lobby, West Babylon
  • January 12-30: Jones Beach 9am-4:30pm
  • January 12-31: Nissequogue River State Park 8am-4pm
