Free Activities for Teens at the Museum of Arts and Design this Friday Night
The words teen and free rarely go hand in hand, except, it seems, at NYC museums. Just last month, we told you about the Metropolitan Museum of Art's first-ever FREE teen night. And now this Friday evening, the Museum of Arts and Design is hosting its own FREE fete for teens featuring cool and creative activities.
MAD's FREE Teen Night isn't new. It actually debuted back in 2012, but it has evolved a lot since then. MAD’s Teen Trustees and the Museum Teen Summit collaborated on this year's edition, which means the event is planned by its target demo. And who knows what teens want better than their peers?
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
This Friday, November 21 from 4:30 to 8:30pm, MAD hosts its third annual Teen Night open exclusively to adolescents ages 13 to 19 (so parents, please stay home). While it's true admission to MAD is always FREE for teens, this evening features special hands-on activities in conjunction with the museum's brand-new exhibit, New Territories, which explores the intersections of arts, design, craft and manufacturing.
Teens can team up for a Snapchat scavenger hunt of the galleries with prizes awarded to the top five finalists; craft 3D Cubotoy-inspired paper figures to use in a collaborative stop-motion movie; meet robot maker Ricardo Cid; and explore various works in depth with museum educators. Complimentary snacks from Whole Foods, a raffle with artsy prizes and a dance party are on tap, too.
No RSVP is required and all activities are drop in (though some may have limited space so arriving early is advised). Teens ages 13 to 19 must show a school or government ID to enter. The Museum of Arts and Design is located at 2 Columbus Circle at 58th Street. For more information about this Friday's Teen Night, see our event listing.
