Family Fun Along the Chestnut Hill East SEPTA Line
2/24/16

The Chestnut Hill East SEPTA train serves Chestnut Hill, Mt Airy, and Germantown. Rich in history and cultural experiences, this could easily become a favorite SEPTA line. In the summer, plenty of parks and playgrounds are worth checking out, as well as many fun family excursions. As always our events calendar is chock-full of fun times, but here are our top family activities along the Chestnut Hill East line.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
- Just a few short blocks from the Chestnut Hill East stop is the Woodmere Art Museum, which is home to the art and artist of Philadelphia. With a children’s garden, art making projects, and storytelling galleries, this is a great museum for all ages.
- Off of Wyndmoor, keep an eye on the listings of the Stagecrafters Theater, where you can expect great literary works produced on stage. Past shows include Of Mice and Men and The Importance of Being Ernest. Ideal for families with older children.
- At the Mt. Airy stop, don't miss the Trolley Car Diner and Deli, especially if you have a young child who is a trolley or train lover (kids are half-price on Tuesdays)!
- Another Mt. Airy hit for kids is sitting inside Walk a Crooked Mile, an adorable bookstore next to the train station. Find classics, read together, and build lasting memories as you watch the trains go by.
- On nice days, stop at Sedgwick to access the Mt. Airy playground, which has a great sprayground for really warm months.
- When you get off the Washington Lane stop, head over to the Awbury Arboretum featuring meadows, wetlands, and even a secret garden.
- Learn all about Germantown at the Germantown Visitors Center, right off the Germantown stop. The site features more than 50,000 historic objects, with some dating back to the mid-1600s when Germantown was formed. Teen and tween history buffs will thoroughly enjoy this destination.
