Easy Fabric Friendship Bracelets for Kids - With Recycled T-Shirts

5/6/24 - By Dari Litchman

Looking for a fun, easy, and eco-friendly craft to do with the kids? These vibrant fabric friendship bracelets are the perfect solution! Made from old t-shirts or fabric scraps, they're not only a blast to create but also a fantastic way to upcycle materials you already have. Even little hands can master this simple braiding technique, and bigger kids will love designing unique patterns and trading their creations with friends.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Why You'll Love This Craft:

  • Super Easy: Perfect for all ages, even toddlers with a little help!

  • Affordable: Uses recycled materials you likely have on hand.

  • Creative: Endless possibilities for color combinations and patterns.

  • Skill-Building: Great for developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

  • Eco-Friendly: Gives old clothes a new life!

What You'll Need:

  • Old t-shirts or soft fabric scraps (the stretchier, the better!)

  • Scissors

  • Small rubber bands (rainbow loom bands work great!)

  • Tape

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Prep Your Fabric: Cut your t-shirts or fabric into 1-inch wide strips. Once cut, gently stretch each strip from end to end. This will cause the fabric to curl in on itself, forming long, skinny strands – perfect for braiding!

  2. Gather Your Strands: Pick three strands of your desired colors and group them together.

  3. Secure and Braid: Tape one end of your grouped strands to a table or any flat surface. Now, start braiding! Simply cross the right strand over the middle, then the left strand over the new middle. Continue this pattern until you reach your desired length.

  4. Tie it Off: Once your bracelet is the right size, secure the end with a small rubber band. You can also tie the ends together to create a closed loop bracelet, or leave them open to tie around a wrist.

More crafty ideas:

Once you get the hang of the basic braid, experiment with different braiding techniques for unique patterns. You can also use this same method to create colorful headbands, keychains, or even fun fabric garlands! Let your imagination run wild!
